How to Recognize a Healthy Relationship: Questions to Ask Yourself

Being in a healthy relationship is very important. Whether it’s with a partner, family member, or friend, healthy relationships provide support, trust, and mutual respect. However, it’s not always easy to know whether a relationship is truly healthy or if it might be causing you more harm than good. If you're unsure, here are a few questions you can ask yourself to help identify if you are in a healthy relationship.

Does your significant other....

  • Trust you?
  • View you as an equal?
  • Talk honestly and openly?
  • Let the relationship go at your own pace?
  • Treat you fairly?
  • Make you feel safe emotionally and physically?
  • Talk things out calmly?
  • Support you having your own friends?
  • Listen to your feelings?
  • Respect your opinions?

If you answered “no” to any of these questions, it could be a sign that your relationship may not be as healthy as it should be. No one deserves to be in a relationship that causes harm or distress. If you find yourself feeling unsafe, manipulated, or emotionally drained, it’s important to seek support. If you or someone you know is in crisis or needs help, don’t hesitate to reach out. Call RCDV Safe Haven of Ashland’s 24/7 Hotline at 419-289-8085 for support and resources. Your safety and well-being matter, and there is always help available.

Healthy relationships are built on trust, respect, and support. If you're in a relationship that isn't serving you well, it’s important to recognize that you deserve better. Remember, you are not alone, and support is always just a phone call away.
